Sheri's treatment began August 17, 1987. All four first molars were banded with lingual tubes on the maxillary molar bands for placement of a transpalatal arch. Straight wire brackets were placed on the maxillary four incisors. .0175 arch wire placed on the upper arch. After one month, the transpalatal was seated on the upper arch and a thick lip bumper was seated on the lower arch with class III elastics. After three months of lip bumper on the lower, the crowding of the lower arch was resolved and straight wire brackets were placed on the lower arch with a routine arch sequence. As the second molars erupted, bands were placed and arch wire sequence continued upper and lower.
On May 11, 1988 when the lower arch was leveled, aligned and rotated, up to an .018 x .025 stainless steel arch wire, a multi-distalizing arch was placed on the upper to move the teeth into a class I relationship and allow room for the cuspids to erupt. Awaiting full eruption of the cuspids, there was posterior rebound and it was necessary to distalize again to move the teeth into the embrasures.
On December 13, 1989 the final distalizing arch was removed. Fine-tuning with the arch wire sequence and some rebracketing was necessary. On January 3, 1990, a .018 x .025 posted arch wire with pletcher springs was seated for final space closure and bite opening.
On June 27, 1990, the upper wrap around hawley and a lower lingual retainer bonded cuspid to cuspid was seated.
Active treatment time: 34 months.
