After practicing as a critical care Registered Nurse for 10 years, Dr. Baker earned her DMD from University of Kentucky and her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from University of Connecticut. She also spent a year fellowship in Orthodontics at UConn, and served on faculty in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics for seven years. She then joined Dr. Walter Doyle in practice and teaching seminars. Today, after 25 years in dentistry, Dr. Chris. approach to pediatric dentistry and orthodontics is based in prevention, with emphasis on orthodontic treatment procedures for the preschool and school-age child to improve the growth of the entire face. Her experience in practice management and her extensive knowledge of child behavior, parenting, and child management are elements integrated in her practice and teaching. Dr. Baker.s busy practice continues to provide state-of-the-art care to many children, and through Chris Baker Seminars, the outreach is wide. This is your comprehensive “hands-on” course! Treat cases and increase revenue while the course is underway. Whether you choose to treat simple cases, children (phase I) or adults or want to understand the stomatognathic system and how it relates to orthodontics and all aspects of dentistry, this is your course. Learn and use Straight Wire® techniques, as well as wirebending procedures and high-tech mechanics to augment the Straight Wire® system. Subsequent years are available to AOS course alumni at only half the normal fee.
Dr. Baker, your AOS instructor, practices pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. She is an active faculty member at the U of Louisville School of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry.
With over 16 years of teaching orthodontics, 8 of them alongside the late, legendary Dr. Walter Doyle, Dr. Baker has taught hundreds of highly successful clinicians, both GP and pediatric.
The Dr. Chris Baker Seminars, formerly Doyle Seminars, are designed to teach the principles of the major fixed and functional appliances with application to all present and future systems. There is no need to repeatedly travel around the country to learn bits of information from various clinicians teaching a particular appliance or treatment philosophy. You will be taught the foundational principles that allow you to utilize the appropriate and the most efficient clinical tools. With this course YOU intelligently evaluate treatment mechanics and determine what works best for you. Dr. Baker.s comprehensive course will give you predictable, consistent, reproducible treatment options that are not limited by manufacturer.s marketing. Your education will be “results-driven”, based on understandings and diagnosis which allow problemfocused mechanics.
The objective of your course is to provide you a solid and confident knowledge of orthodontics, enabling you to provide quality long-term care to your patients. This occurs with a complete understanding of the biologic basis of tooth movement and functional appliances, growth, mechanical principles, diagnosis of problems, and efficient clinical application in an affordable, profitable manner. The five major divisions of the course content outline are (1) biological science, (2) physical science, (3) clinical science, (4) clinical experience, and (5) management science.
With an integrated approach to diagnosis and treatment, your orthodontic training will include observation of orthodontic procedures through computer presentations. You will follow patient treatment from initial examination through sophisticated finishing procedures. Typodont exercises will be used to develop your wirebending skills and to reinforce the logical mechanical sequences for treating all major orthodontic problems. Cephalometric tracing exercises, lectures, reading assignments, reviews of literature, and case presentations by students will all be part of your learning process.

The relationship does not end with the course. The American Orthodontic Society.s mentoring program means that phone and email conversations are always available. We encourage you to return in the subsequent year at half-price or take Dr. Baker.s Course II. We want you to enjoy a profitable orthodontics practice and through membership in the American Orthodontic Society you will be assisted in reaching that goal. You are encouraged to bring one or more of your assistants for a materials fee of only $535 for all five sessions.
Dr. Chris Baker Seminar graduates comprise an increasingly large alumni roster. Although, each experiences the seminar in his/her own way, many have said that it has changed their lives, made them enjoy their practice again and increased their income. (One graduate started more than 400 orthodontic cases within a year after the course, while another increased his income by $42,000 before the course was over.) Weekend 1: Getting started: Records, Examination and Structured diagnosis - Hands-on: ceph tracing and examination
Weekend 2: Diagnosis, treatment planning and beginning treatment - Mechanics: bracketing on models, looped arch wire
Weekend 3: Case selection, Class I treatment, limited primary and transitional dentition treatment, transverse discrepancies - Mechanics: sectional, utility, and full arch wires
Weekend 4: Understanding mechanics; early development of joints and occlusion, inter-arch A-P discrepancies, vertical discrepancies - Mechanics: distalizing cuspids, closing spaces

AOS membership is required. For AOS members, the seminar fee is $3,980 with a 10% discount if you register by August 15, 2009. A $645 deposit is required at registration. $100 of the deposit is non refundable 2 weeks prior to the start of the course. The American Orthodontic Society is an Accepted Program Provider of the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of the AOS are accepted for FAGD/MAGD credit. A total of 80 hours will be granted for this course.
