A well trained and motivated staff is essential to the successful incorporation of orthodontics into your practice. Orthodontic records and data gathering is 100% delegable to the trained dental auxiliary along with a tremendous amount of other duties relating to orthodontics. You can't afford to miss out on the opportunity to train your staff to accept these responsibilities.
Each year the American Orthodontic Society offers a Basic Assistant course for the dental auxiliary. The course is taught on a beginning level and is geared to chairside assistants who are new to orthodontics and/or the Straight Wire® technique.
This program is a perfect complement to offices utilizing Dr. Robert Gerety's technique. However, Kay's knowledge of orthodontics in the general practitioner's office and experience as a clinician means she has valuable insights for any assistant. More importantly, she communicates them well. Whether you are a former student of Bob Gerety or not, this course will make your staff more productive in your practice.
This 2 1/2-day course is approved for 16 hours of continuing education.
All sessions for the basic course are held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On-site registration will be from 8:00 am to 9:00 am on Friday morning. The course will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday and Saturday, and 8:00 am to 11:00 am on Sunday.
Kay Gerety has taught auxiliaries about orthodontics for over thirty years. A dental assistant herself for more than 38 years, Kay assisted Dr. Robert Gerety in his extended Straight Wire Orthodontics program from 1980 - 2009. During that time, she taught her own assistants program in conjunction with Dr. Gerety's courses. Kay's nearly 40 years experience in dentistry as a chairside assistant, office manager and teacher has prepared her to train your staff thoroughly and efficiently. She knows what it takes to communicate to your staff. A highly enthusiastic presenter, Kay is motivating, as well as knowledgeable, enabling her students to return to your practice with a renewed excitement and enthusiasm for dentistry and their ability to contribute.

The course cost is $495 per assistant and includes the course manual and materials for hands-on
projects. A $100 deposit per assistant is required with registration. The remainder of the course fee is due no later than Friday morning before class starts. The deposit is non-refundable within 2 weeks of the start of the course.
All wires, appliances and peripheral products are supplied in a comprehensive course manual at no extra charge! A complete list of instruments necessary for project participation will be sent upon registration.
All supplies necessary to complete the handson projects will be furnished by the instructor. Prior to the course, a registration packet will be mailed with a complete list of the instruments and equipment needed. Each participant will also need a fully banded or bonded typodont as described in the registration packet.
